2. Submerged Mechanical aerators with a vertical axis

    Air may be introduced by diffusion into the wastewater beneath the impeller. The impeller is used to disperse the air bubbles and mix the water. The draft tube is a cylinder with end mounted with the impeller and extends from above the floor of tank to beneath the impeller. The power of motor may be 1-150 HP. Typical oxygen transfer is 2-4 lb o2/hphr.

3. Surface Mechanical aerators with a horizontal axis

     This type aerator equipped with bristles on a horizontal cylinder. The bristles were submerged in the water and the cylinder was rotated by motor, spraying water, and entraining air in the water.
     The surface aerator used to provide oxidation ditches or aeration of Europe. Oxygen Transfer is about 1.5-3.6 lb O2/HP hr. Motor = 11-30 KW.

4. Submerged Mechanical aerators with a horizontal axis

The Submerged horizontal axis aerators use disks or paddles attached to rotating shafts to agitate the water. The disks are submerged in the water between 1/8 to 3/8 of the diameter. Typical power is about 0.1-0.75 KW/disk.
