Types of Fine Bubble Diffusers

4.  Disc Diffuser

  Configuration

Disc diffusers are a recent development and differ with dome diffusers. The membrane made of ceramic or rigid porous plastic material.

The common method of attaching the disc the holder is to use a screw-on retainer ring. This method will has advantages. When diffusers become fouled, excessive air area discharged from the edges and the area around the center-bolt washer. It will cause to reduce OTE. But this method can minimize these problems. Usually the disc diffuser attachment method uses mechanical means. Either a bayonet-type holder is forced into a saddle on the pipe, or a wedge section is placed around the pipe and clamps the holder to the pipe.

For perforated membrane disc require support. The support made of polyamide, PVC and polypropylene ..etc. The membrane is usually clamping ring or screw-on retaining ring.

Usually the disc design to feed air through several holes in the center of the support base. The membrane is not perforated near these holes. When the air is turned off, the liquid head forces the unperforated section of membrane down over the air inlet ports. This provide similar to check valve function.

Installation

Discs are usually installed in a total floor coverage or grid pattern. In some oxygen demand is low case, the diffusers should be placed  in tightly spaced rows along the side of middle of the basin to create a spiral or mid-width mixing pattern. The diffuser are usually mounted as close to the basin floor within 23 cm like dome diffuser.
